taperecorder

A chameleonic interpreter of genres.
Hailing from the more indie-centric side of electronic music, Marc Francis was the mastermind behind legendary house music collective Intergalactic Faerie Funk and the decidedly folkier Mossyrock. Now, this restless soul has a new incarnation under the charming moniker Taperecorder.
Originally a side project of Francis’, taperecorder came into full flourish at the dawn of 2009. Having dissolved Mossyrock, an exhausted Francis vowed to take a step back from the savage schedule of touring and recording that had marked the previous three years. Berlin beckoned and he answered the call without reserve, spending two months in the spectre of the former iron curtain, crafting bold new sounds that reflected his new philosophy of depending on no-one but himself. From the murky alleyways and dark speakeasies of urban Germany, Taperecorder was born.
Pasting jaunty acoustic melodies onto shadowy blips and glitches, fusing poppy electronics with lush pads, Taperecorder creates a shoegazing-crunk house hybrid as suited to cocooned winter days as to sweaty late-night adventuring. Francis has lived and played all over this lonely planet, and his wandering proclivities are the watermark of his work as Taperecorder: sounds garnered from the everyday, contorted and married to eerie yet danceable beats. It's the haunting feelings that taperecorder captures, and will be performing when the born rambler makes his way around the world once again.
